Summary of Principal Functions:
The UNFPA Nordic Office serves to liaise with key external partners including governments, parliaments, NGOs and media in the Nordic countries covered by the office.
As a member of the team, the Communication Assistant will take active part in preparing advocacy events and media work for print and social media to advance and to perform administrative tasks.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Under the supervision of the Chief of Nordic Office:
Draft articles for Nordic news outlets on issues related to UNFPA mandate;
Collect and analyze data and information for background paper and briefing notes;
Assist with the preparation and implementation of advocacy events, seminars and campaigns in the Nordic countries such as the launch of the State of World Population report and relevant UN days;
Prepare invitations, flyers, etc. in InDesign in relation with campaigns and conferences;
Perform administrative tasks; including filing, travel claims, use of finance systems (Atlas).
Provide logistical support for instance in relation to high-level visits to the region;
Guide and assist with the use of relevant social media;
Prepare and send out periodic newsletters to alert audiences on new material and maintain email distribution lists to this end;
Identify outreach opportunities with media and arrange interviews with senior UNFPA officials.
Qualifications & Experience:
Education:
Completion of secondary education is required.
University degree in communication and/or development or other relevant area is desirable.
Knowledge & Experience:
5 years of relevant work experience (e.g. communication, media, journalism, etc.) is required.
An advanced university degree in combination with bachelor degree in the relevant filed may be accepted in lieu of 5 years of work experience (i.e. one year of education in lieu of 1 year of experience).
Min. 1 year of relevant experience in communication with a focus on development is a strong asset.
Knowledge of Microsoft office, InDesign and Photoshop is a strong asset.
Ability to work independently.
Open to change and ability to receive constructive feedback and differing points of view.
Languages required:
· Fluency in English with excellent oral and written communication skills is required.
· Fluency in a Nordic language and ability to work in a Nordic language environment is a strong asset.
