Background

In a world where crises are increasingly affecting more people, lasting longer and becoming more complex, the overall purpose of the Humanitarian Office is to facilitate the delivery of UNFPA mandate in humanitarian action (preparedness, response, and recovery). Every woman and young person affected by a crisis has the right to protection, health and dignity. The Humanitarian Offices leads in leveraging and increasing effectiveness and efficiency of UNFPA staff and partners to scale-up humanitarian action across the world.

● Monitor data entry into the humanitarian data collection tool - known internally as the ‘master sheet.” The tool tracks data points from over 50 countries that are responding to humanitarian crises worldwide.

● Analyze, organize and curate the data points in order to provide a global overview including trends.

● Visualize the data using tables and charts as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

● Active enrollment in an advanced degree program, or recently graduated, in areas such as international affairs, public administration, social sciences, economics, international finance, international development, or related areas.

● Advanced and excellent knowledge of Excel and Google Sheets including VLOOKUP, data analytics, and visualization.

● A mix of qualitative and quantitative research skills.

● Drafting skills in English - ability to write clearly and concisely, and synthesize information.

● Initiative, sound judgment and demonstrated ability to work harmoniously with people of different cultures.

LEARNING ELEMENTS

Upon completion of the assignment, and depending on its duration, the Intern should:

● Have an increased knowledge of UNFPA’s work and the UN system in general.

● Understand the nature of humanitarian operations in an international environment.

● Gain knowledge of issues related to population and development, sexual and reproductive health and gender-based violence.

● Be able to work as a team member in a multicultural setting.
