Organization Settings:
The Driver is responsible for ensuring safe driving services and performing office management support functions.

You will be expected to promote client-oriented approach, courtesy, confidentiality, tact and ability to work with people of different national and cultural backgrounds.

You will work in close collaboration with the International Operations Manager, the Country Office programme and operations team.

You will report directly to the Administrative Assistant.

Job Purpose:
The Driver provides reliable and safe driving services, ensuring the highest standards of discretion and integrity, sense of responsibility, and excellent knowledge of protocol and security issues. You will be required to demonstrate a client-oriented approach, courtesy, confidentiality, tact and ability to work with people of different national and cultural backgrounds.

Main Tasks & Responsibilities:

A. Safe driving services

  • Provide efficient driving services for UN officials and staff; ensure provision of reliable and safe driving services by driving office vehicles for the transport of UN staff, officials and visitors as may be assigned.
  • Ensure cost-savings through proper use of vehicle through accurate maintenance of daily vehicle logs, provision of inputs to preparation of the vehicle maintenance plans and reports.
  • Ensure proper day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle through carrying out timely minor repairs, timely ensure change of oil, check tires, brakes and water levels, regular car washing, so that the vehicle is always clean and in good running condition.
  • Ensure proper use of vehicle maintenance plans, report on and arrange for major vehicle service, maintenance and repairs, and assist in preparing and reconciling the monthly vehicle history report.
  • Ensure availability of all the required documents/supplies including vehicle insurance, vehicle registration, vehicle logs, office directory, map of the city/country, first aid kit, and necessary spare parts in the assigned vehicle.
  • Keep abreast of traffic, road and security/safety situation to enable safe and timely arrival for meetings and events.
  • Ensure that the steps required by rules and regulations are taken in case of involvement in an accident.
  • Keep track of insurance and other tax formalities.**B. Office management support functions**

  • Deliver and collect mail, documents and other items.

  • Assists office staff in filing, photocopying and maintaining stores for office supplies when required.

  • Assists in the collection and dispatch of mail and distribution of newsletters and publications and arrange to pay office telephone and other bills, as required.

  • Meet official personnel and visitors at the airport and provide support with visa and customs formalities arrangements, when required.

  • Interpret in the local language for the official personnel using the car, when necessary.

  • Provide guidance and coaching to junior Drivers, as may deem necessary.Carry out any other duties as may be required by the UNFPA leadership.

Qualifications and Experience
Education:
Completed Secondary Level education

Knowledge and Experience:

  • At least 2 years work experience as a driver in an international organization, embassy or UN system, with a safe driving record, valid driver’s license.
  • Knowledge of driving rules and regulations, chauffeur protocol and courtesies, local roads and conditions, and defensive driving skills, skill in minor vehicle repairs.
  • Training certificate of Armored Vehicle drive is desirable.
  • UN common system experience, especially field experience, is desirable

Languages:
Fluency in English required, knowledge of local languages is an asset.
