1. Organizational Location
The post is located in the UNFPA Procurement Services Branch (PSB) in Copenhagen. The position entails no management of other staff, and will report to the Outreach Lead at PSB.
2. Job Purpose
It is a human right to be able to decide how many children to have, when to have them and to have the information and means to do so. UNFPA Procurement Services Branch offers governments & partners, NGOs and other UN agencies access to procurement of high quality, affordable reproductive health commodities as well as contraceptive procurement data that is crucial to supply chain coordination. UNFPA Procurement Services Branch is the largest public procurer of contraceptives for women and men in developing countries and thus serves to implement this basic human right. In 2017, we delivered supplies to 117 countries.
The Communications Assistant will work to increase visibility of UNFPA initiatives to internal and external partners. For this purpose, the Communications Assistant will be able to participate in and contribute to processes of developing a range of visual communication products targeted at a variety of audiences including the general public, UNFPA country offices, donors, governments, and the UN system. The Communications Assistant will be involved in the development of multiple visual tools and content creation for infographics, websites, and social media. The Communications Assistant will be engaged in the full process from conceptualization of visual identity to development of final communication products, considering at all stages of the process how to best communicate key UNFPA messages to intended target groups in accordance with the UNFPA brand and communication strategies while making the best use of different media.
3. Major Activities/Expected Results
- Serve as Communications Assistant for the Procurement Services Branch
- Coordinate, compile and create regular updates from PSB teams for use in internal and external communications such as newsletters and websites
- Coordinate the creation of digital content, plan and execute all web, email and social media campaigns in line with the UNFPA Social Media Strategy
- Build and maintain PSB’s social media presence in line with the UNFPA Social Media Strategy
- Measure performance of all digital marketing campaigns against KPIs
- Conceptualize and design of UNFPA Procurement Services outreach and marketing materials such as infographics, brochures, online content to educate and increase use of UNFPA Procurement Services globally
- Maintain and update online training materials and toolkits for country office staff, Ministries of Health, potential and current clients, and other stakeholders
- Assist in compilation and management of a database of outreach prospective clients
- Coordinate and assist with translation of materials/content
- Track client and potential client needs and feedback including conducting annual partner survey to help inform the procurement services provided by UNFPA
- Monitor performance related to annual outreach and marketing plans
- Track and respond to (potential) client queries
- Undertake other tasks and duties as required
4. Work Relations
- Supervised by the Outreach Lead
- Collaborates with PSB staff to determine marketing needs and develop communications content
- Coordinates with PSB teams to compile regular updates for internal/external communications
- Manages external suppliers of communication materials
- Interacts with external parties in reproductive health, such as NGOs, Government ministries, and other UNFPA business units via social media
5. Job Requirements
Education:
- Completion of Secondary education required.
- University degree or completed certificate programmes in Digital Marketing & Communications, Graphic/Multi-Media Design, Journalism, International Relations or related field would be useful, but is not a requirement.
Knowledge and Experience:
- Minimum 4 years of related work experience in content creation for communication is required. Note that an Advanced University degree (or equivalent: i.e CPA, ACCA, Jurist Doctor etc) in Public Administration, Commerce, Business Administration in combination with 2 years of relevant work experience may be accepted in lieu of 4 years of experience.
- Experience with NGO or international, customer-focused organization is an asset.
- Understanding of reproductive health programs, context and stakeholders is an asset.
Required competencies:
- Strong working knowledge of MS Office applications.
- Strong working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite applications such as InDesign, Illustrator, Spark, Photoshop, PremierPro.
- Savvy user of social media
- Familiarity with content management systems (CMS).
