Denmark: Internship - Data Analysis and Reporting - UNFPA PSB, Copenhagen, Denmark

Objectives

Internships with UNFPA offer university students or university graduates the opportunity to acquire direct exposure to the work of UNFPA. It is intended to complement primarily development-oriented studies or studies in related fields with practical experience.

Organizational Location

United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) is the world’s largest international source of funding for population and reproductive health programmes. The Procurement Services Branch (PSB), located in Copenhagen, provides low cost, high quality reproductive health commodities worldwide. PSB provides services to UNFPA field offices, headquarters, governments, NGOs, and other UN agencies. Description of Duties

The intern in PSB will participate in the analysis, design, production and deployment of standard and recurring procurement reports and analysis. The main tasks will be as follows:

● Help to coordinate and align the collection of data from varied sources, contacting and following up with all contributors to ensure that information is received in time for reports to be prepared within the established deadlines for submission.

● Assist in the cleaning of the raw data.

● Participate in designing and developing content for new and existing analytics, statistics, and reports such as annual procurement statistics.

● Provide proactive feedback and advice on current statistical tools.

● May also participate in other projects within PSB.

● Perform other related duties as required.

Specific deliverables will be agreed based on the qualifications and skills of the selected candidate together with the supervisor.

Qualifications

The background of any applicant for an internship should be matched with the requirements of UNFPA. Interns should meet the following requirements:

Education

● Applicants must be enrolled in a graduate university degree programme or have graduated within 12 months prior to the starting date of the internship in International Development/Relations, Statistics, Economics, Public Health, Public Administration, or other relevant field.

Skills

● Interest in development issues is a strong asset.

● Written and spoken fluency in English is required. Knowledge of other UN languages is an asset.

● Excellent knowledge of MS Office, especially Excel, is a strong advantage.

● Excellent knowledge of statistics software is highly desirable.

● Excellent (report) writing skills.

Competencies

● Teamwork: Good interpersonal skills; ability to work in a multicultural and multi-ethnic environment with full respect for diversity. Displays cultural, gender, religion, race, nationality and age sensibility and adaptability.

● Communication: Ability to write in a clear and concise manner and to communicate effectively orally.

● Planning and Organizing: Demonstrated effective organizational skills and ability to handle work in an efficient and timely manner.

Please note that the selected candidate must have a valid residence and working permit in Denmark or in any of the countries belonging to the European Union at the time of applying. In case of equally qualified candidates, candidates with working permits in Denmark will be given preference. UNFPA shall not process any permits nor pay travel costs to Denmark.

Financial Aspects

Interns do not receive a salary or any other form of remuneration from UNFPA. The costs associated with an intern's participation in the programme must be assumed either by the nominating institution, which may provide the required financial assistance to its students, or by the students themselves, who will have to meet living expenses as well as make their own arrangements for accommodation, travel and other requirements. In addition, applicants must have medical insurance for the duration of the internship. Proof of insurance will need to be submitted before the internship begins.

Career Opportunities

● The UNFPA internship is not connected with employment and does not give rise to any expectancy of future employment.

● Interns with UNFPA shall not be eligible for recruitment as a staff member within a 3 month period following the conclusion of their internship.
