Duties and Responsibilities:
Under the overall guidance of the UNFPA Representative and the direct supervision of the Advocacy and Communications Officer, the Communications Assistant will perform the following functions:
- Assist in drafting, editing and proof-reading of articles on UNFPA activities (including, but not limited to newsletters, feature stories, brochures, photo stories and Press notes, etc.);
- Support website and Social Media Management: prepare new material and update Daily and Weekly content for UNFPA Liberia Website and Social Media platforms;
- Assist in the creation, editing and retouching of photographs and videos;
- Assist with Media Monitoring and flagging of women reproductive health, youth as well as data for development issues reported in the media (online, print and broadcast);
- Assist with the design/establishment and regularly maintain a shared activity calendar for internal reference and external information planning;
- Assist with the planning and implementation of key events and conferences as needed;
- Respond to other media and communication related requests as needed;
- Assist with development and implementation of information campaigns for UNFPA programmes;
- Attend UN Communications Group meetings and participate in joint activities as required;
- Performs any other duties, which may be assigned from time to time

Education
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, media studies, journalism, international relations, international development, marketing, or another related field.
Work experience
- A minimum of two years of relevant experience in one or more of the following areas: journalism, public relations, advocacy, international relations, marketing, development, advertising, digital communications, multimedia agencies, or another relevant field;
- Experience in media relations using traditional and social media, multi-media and a variety of platforms;
- Experience in organization of media events;
- Familiarity with the work of the United Nations Organization, its mandate, main areas of focus; United Nations bodies, agencies, entities and departments; current priorities issues;
- Must have an active presence in major social media platforms, including but not limited to Facebook, Twitter, Google+, Instagram, and LinkedIn;
- Experience with website management will be an advantage;
- Proficiency in graphic design an asset.
