POST TITLE:Intern for Marginalized Youth

STARING DATE/DURATION:From May 2017 (from at least three months to six months)
1) GENERAL BACKGROUND
Sexual and reproductive health and rights are a cornerstone of young people’s transition to adulthood and a core element of the ICPD Programme of Action and the current Country programme Eleventh (2017-2021). To empower young people, especially the marginalized groups and to enable them to become drivers of change ensuring the implementation of Prevention and Solution of the Adolescent Pregnancy Problem Act is one of the major instruments in advancing sexual and reproductive health and rights of the Thai population. This internship will support UNFPA Thailand Country Office to promote data collection and utilization of strategic information to facilitate evidence-based legislation and policies in advancing sexual and reproductive health and rights.
2) OBJECTIVES OF THE ASSIGNMENT
The intern will specifically assist in producing reviews to understand the conditions faced by vulnerable, marginalized adolescents, using data from censuses, demographic and health surveys, and other sources, in relation to their needs and demands on sexual and reproductive health information and services. The product will provide evidence to support UNFPA and Government of Thailand and stakeholders on their policy development for the vulnerable, and marginalized young people ensuring inclusive development.
3) SCOPE OF WORK
As assigned by supervisor, the intern will be responsible for:
· Collect and collate data on sexual and reproductive health and rights of specific vulnerable young people,
· Review and analyse data on key findings in terms of economic and social situations, factors, difficulties to access to YSRH & Rights, including government’s and other stakeholder’s responses and challenges.
· Report the findings along with recommendations from youth perspectives
· Prepare a fully referenced report with an annex documenting sources used for the analysis.
· Provide other support related to research and ground documents as needed to the team.
4) DURATION OF ASSIGNMENT, DUTY STATION AND EXPECTED PLACES OF TRAVEL
The duration of the internship is approximately 3 months.
The internship will not be remunerated.
The duty station of the internship is Bangkok.
5) REQUIREMENTS
· University student currently enrolment in at least third year in social sciences, social anthropology, public health, or related field.
· Demonstrated an interest in learning the economic and social aspect of sexual and reproductive health and rights.
· Demonstrated skills in analytical thinking and research.
· Good writing and editing skills in Thai and English.
· Proficient computer skills and knowledge of automated systems.
· Ability to work as a team and within an international setting.
· Ability to perform tasks beyond the scope of work as and when required.
6) PROVISION OF MONITORING AND PROGRESS CONTROLS
The intern will work under the overall guidance of National Programme Officer for Young People.
Conditions: The internship is unpaid. Costs related to travel, insurance, visa and accommodation will exclusively be covered by the applicant. UNFPA Thailand will need to see documentation of insurance coverage prior to the commencement of the internship.
